The fire marshal is responsible for ensuring fire safety codes and protocols are followed by residents, businesses, and buildings in North Stamford. The fire marshal conducts inspections, issues open-burning permits, and investigates the causes of fires, among other responsibilities.

- Make sure your smoke detectors, CO detectors and fire extinguishers are up-to-date and functioning
- Have an escape plan
Smoke/Carbon Monoxide (CO) Detectors
For early detection, it is extremely important that your home is outfitted with both smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors. Some companies now provide these two functions in one. The 10-year lithium-ion sealed model is the suggested national standard.
If you cannot purchase detectors on your own, there are 3 different free resources available for smoke and CO detectors:
- The LRFC was invited again to the annual Operation Save a Life event on 9/11/19. Kidde and Home Depot donated smoke and CO detectors to LRFC to install in the community. Call 203-322-5200 and we can get the installation scheduled through Stamford Fire Dispatch.
- Call Stamford Fire Dispatch directly at 203-977-5555 and give them your information. These alarms are typically provided in partnership with the Red Cross. Check out the City of Stamford’s Standard Operating Guidelines, which will give you more information on what to expect.
- The LRFC was awarded a grant through First Alert for 100 smoke/CO detectors and a home safety visit is part of the package. Please visit the Town/Gown Fire Safety Community Service Project page for more information on how to sign up for these detectors.
Whichever resource you choose above, the LRFC just asks that you complete this waiver. You can complete it ahead of time OR we will bring a copy with us for you to complete at the time of installation.
