Volunteer

You can volunteer as an Operational Member and/or an Administrative Member. Operational members respond to emergency calls to provide fire, rescue, and medical services. Administrative members work on the non-emergency operations of the Company such as fundraising, recruiting, building maintenance & technology. Many of our members choose to serve both functions! Both the operational and administrative membership options have officer positions that more seasoned members can be elected for at the annual meeting in March by their fellow Company members.

Application Process & Timeline

  1. Complete our straightforward 2-page application and return a physical copy to the fire house. You can be sponsored by a current member but this is not required.
  2. Meet with the Chief. He/she will ask about your background, your interest in the fire service, and discuss relevant sections of your application. This is a friendly conversation with ample opportunity to question us about our role in the community, how you will fit into our fire company, time commitments, benefits of membership, and any other questions.
  3. Spend time at the fire house meeting the members and observing the weekly drills, which are held on Monday evenings at 7:30pm.
  4. Attend the next regular monthly company meeting. These are held on the first Monday of each month at 8pm (barring that it is not a holiday; in that case, the meeting would be held on the second Monday of the month). All applications must be posted for the company to evaluate for a minimum of 30 days.
  5. At the monthly meeting where your application is up for consideration, your character will be discussed openly. If you attend the meeting, you will be asked to leave the room. Attendance is not required to be voted in but is encouraged just as attending drill is encouraged. If you are present, you will be required to swear the oath.
  6. You will be immediately notified upon acceptance/rejection, and our Chief and/or Operational Officers will coordinate a time to introduce you to the rest of the fire house membership. At that time you will be set up with a code for our volunteer sign-in system, a photo ID, gear and other items needed for the role you are training to fulfill.

Probationary Period

All members go through a six-month probationary period where they are asked to attend our monthly meetings and weekly drills. You will be with existing members through the process of advancing your skills and knowledge of the fire service. Your probationary period will include getting familiarized with the stations, district, apparatus, equipment and gear. Basic fire fighting and EMS skills will be reviewed with you. You will be considered an exterior fire fighter and will not be allowed to enter fires.

After Probation

At this point, you will be scheduled to enter the next available Firefighter 1/EMR certification course, at a time and location most convenient to you. This might be held at our fire house or a nearby partner department. As a Member, you will now be able to vote on all matters before the full membership, continue to go on calls, and qualify for increasing levels of responsibility.
