Town/Gown Fire Safety Community Service Project

1/30/20 Breaking news!!! Program ready to launch! See this press release.

First Alert, Campus Firewatch and the Michael H. Minger Foundation are partnering with fire departments and universities across the country to raise awareness about fire safety among students and community members.

The LRFC applied to participate in this program in July 2019 and was selected! We asked for the maximum amount of 10-year sealed battery smoke/carbon monoxide combination detectors, which is 100. We were 1 of 24 departments across 16 states that were selected.

The goal of this project is to get students working alongside firefighters to conduct home safety visits and install First Alert smoke and carbon monoxide alarms. By conducting these home safety visits, students are helping to make their communities safer and learning fire safety at the same time.

Please visit First Alert’s website for additional details about the program.

The LRFC will partner with one student from UCONN-Stamford to complete this program. To be eligible to receive a home safety visit and installation, you must live within the LRFC response district. Please visit our About Us section to see our district map.
